Anthony Albanese has quietly rented out his $4.3 million Copacabana retirement home on the NSW Central Coast, with the Prime Minister tipped to bring in thousands a month for the luxury property.

Mr Albanese updated his official register of interests in January to list his four-bedroom Copacabana clifftop mansion, dubbed “clifftop perfection”, as an investment property generating rental income.

The property boasts uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean and the Sydney skyline, which was previously described as “one of the most commanding positions on the clifftop”.

His real estate agent declined to reveal how much rent he is charging, but online estimates suggested he could ask $1000 a week or about $52,000 a year.

Mr Albanese also did not disclose his rental income for the home, which would come on top of his $564,356 salary.

He previously earned $45,000 for another investment property in Dulwich Hill in Sydney’s inner west, which he sold last year for $1.75m.

The Dulwich Hill property had made headlines when the then tenant, music venue owner Jim Flanagan, went public with his objections to being asked to vacate the property so it could be sold.

Mr Albanese also rented his 1990 family home with a backyard swimming pool in Marrickville for $1350 a week after moving into the rent-free Lodge, delivering a healthy income stream of $70,000 a year.

That means he likely has a combined annual income of $686,556 before he pays tax on his income and two investment properties.

After receiving widespread criticism for his purchase in September, Mr Albanese said: “Not every decision that I make as a human being is through a focus group, is about politics”.

“Around about this time last year, on February 14, I proposed to Jodie.

“I’ve met someone I want to spend the rest of my life with, and what happens when people make that decision, if they’re in a position to, they go and get a mortgage together.

“And it’s mortgaged, and I sold another property, a property that I had in order to assist with that, so that down the track … we can have somewhere close to where Jodie grew up, where Jodie’s parents and family all are.”

The Australian has contacted the Prime Minister’s office for comment.

Greens housing spokesperson Max Chandler-Mather has previously taken aim at Mr Albanese’s investment property portfolio.

“Let’s be real, if Labor wants to deal with housing affordability then it’s time to phase out the billions of dollars in tax concessions property investors get every year in the form of negative gearing and capital gains tax concessions,” Mr Chandler-Mather said.

“We could be investing that money in building public housing, but instead it is going to people like the Prime Minister with his investment properties.”
