ACT senator Katy Gallagher isolating after daughter, 14, tests positive to Covid
A Labor senator has unleashed on the nation’s vaccine rollout after her 14-year-old daughter tested positive to Covid-19.
ACT senator Katy Gallagher is isolating after her daughter tested positive to Covid-19.
The shadow finance Minister said she was told her 14-year-old daughter Evie was infected with the virus.
She was among 17 positive cases reported earlier on Tuesday.
Ms Gallagher took to social media to explain her “gorgeous daughter” Evie was at home feeling “pretty unwell and understandably worried about what this means for her and for the rest of her family”.
“We are really grateful for the medical and personal support we are receiving,” she wrote.
“Our household remains in strict quarantine until ACT Health advises us that we don’t need to isolate anymore.”
“The rest of our family, including myself, have all returned negative tests.”
She then unleashed on the nation’s vaccine rollout, saying she was “lucky” to be fully vaccinated because many Australians had not had that opportunity.
“My focus right now is on my little girl and getting her through this but these events bring a sharp personal focus to the consequences of our government’s failure to ensure a prompt, efficient national rollout of vaccines,” Ms Gallagher wrote.
“Here I sit tonight, where after doing everything right for 18 months, like millions of other families right around Australia, I am left with my children completely vulnerable to Covid-19.”
There are 45 active Covid-19 cases in the ACT community, including the 17 infections revealed on Tuesday.
