Accused childcare pedophile Joshua Brown ‘committed 18 crimes in one day’
Accused childcare pedophile Joshua Brown is alleged to have committed 18 sexual crimes involving children in just one day.
Accused childcare pedophile Joshua Brown is alleged to have committed 18 sexual crimes involving children in just one day.
The police claim emerged in documents released on Tuesday by the Melbourne Magistrates Court in which the full horror of his alleged offending is revealed.
Mr Brown – who worked at 24 childcare centres across Victoria – was this month charged with 73 child sex offences allegedly committed against eight children aged between five months and two years at Creative Garden Early Learning Centre in Point Cook in Melbourne’s west.
Charge sheets released by the court reveal police allege Mr Brown committed 18 offences on April 28, 2022, including multiple counts of sexually touching an unknown child aged under 16, engaging in a sexual activity in the presence of an unknown child under the age of 16 and the production and transmission of child abuse material.
On May 31, 2022, police allege Mr Brown again sexually touched an unknown child aged under 16, produced child abuse material and transmitted child abuse material. For October 25 of that same year, Mr Brown has been charged with engaging in sexual activity in the presence of an unknown child aged under 16, as well as multiple counts of sexually touching an unknown child aged under 16 and producing and transmitting child abuse material.
Two months later on December 2, 2022, it’s alleged Mr Brown again sexually touched an unknown child aged under 16 and produced and transmitted child abuse material.
That same day, police allege Mr Brown contaminated food with bodily fluids.
About two weeks later, on December 15, 2022, Mr Brown allegedly attempted to sexually penetrate a child under 12 years of age. That same day he also sexually touched an unknown child aged under 16 and produced child abuse material, police say.
On January 10, 2023, Mr Brown allegedly “took part in an act of sexual penetration with an unknown child under the age of 12 years” using his penis.
On the same day, police allege Mr Brown also “intentionally took part in an act of sexual penetration with an unknown child under the age of 12 years” using his finger, sexually touched an unknown child under the age of 16 and produced and transmitted child abuse material.
The remaining incidents are alleged to have taken place on various dates between July 17, 2023, and December 5, 2023, and in January and May of this year.
Details of the charges were revealed as prosecutors were granted more time to prepare their case against Mr Brown, with the court hearing there was the potential for further charges to be brought against him.
The Office of Public Prosecutions on Tuesday applied for an extension of time to compile its evidence and have the committal mention for Mr Brown pushed back from September 15 this year to February 10, 2026.
Magistrate Donna Bakos granted the application, which was unopposed by Mr Brown’s lawyer, Rishi Nathwani. Mr Brown, 26, in custody since his arrest in May, was excused from appearing at Tuesday’s hearing.
Mr Nathwani flagged the possibility of detectives bringing further charges against Mr Brown, and said the lack of certainty meant the application by media agencies to obtain the police charge sheets should be opposed. He argued it would be “premature” to release the charge sheets to media outlets on Tuesday “because the charges are in flux … It would hinder the realisation of natural justice … at this stage.”
However, Ms Bakos said she was not prepared to restrict access to the charge sheets and granted their release.
The court on Tuesday also heard an application from the Office of Public Prosecutions to move the court date for Michael Simon Wilson, who has been linked to Mr Brown, from September 15 to November 15, 2025.
Charge sheets released on Tuesday revealed Mr Wilson, 36, faces a total of 45 charges ranging from rape to child porn possession, transmission and production, as well as “sexually penetrating an animal, namely a dog”. Mr Wilson has also been charged with using a carriage service to transmit material to a person that directly or indirectly incited committing suicide.
Further details of that charge are currently unknown, other than that it was committed between December 14, 2024, and April 25, 2025, notably ending just nine days after his alleged rape charge.
It comes after police confirmed earlier this month that the rape charge related to the alleged assault of a teenager.
Some 42 of the 45 charges relate to Child Abuse Material, including 25 counts of possession, 16 counts of transmission, and one count of production. The relationship between Mr Wilson, who is not a childcare worker, and Mr Brown remains unclear.
However, both men are facing charges that were allegedly committed on the same dates, including on April 28, 2022, when Mr Brown allegedly committed multiple counts of child abuse material production and Mr Wilson allegedly committed multiple counts of possession and access of child abuse material.
