A 23-year-old woman was gunned down and killed in a suburban street, north of Brisbane after being chased by two men early Sunday morning.

Queensland police said the woman, who has yet to be publicly identified, was found unconscious when officers arrived at the scene on Railway Parade, Caboolture.

She was declared dead at the scene.

QPS Detective Inspector David Harbison told reporters on Sunday that the woman had been chased by two men and then shot.

“Police are investigating reports of up to three to four shots fired in that street,” he said.

“Early investigations indicate the deceased was assaulted by two male persons who may have chased her down Railway Parade. During that assault the deceased received a gunshot wound,” Detective Harbison said.

“Police and forensic officers remain at the scene conducting investigations and inquiries, whilst the public nature of this crime is alarming, police do not believe this to be a random attack.

“I want to reassure the public that a dedicated task force of local detectives along with specialist homicide detectives have been deployed to investigate this crime, the goal will be to bring the persons responsible to justice as quickly as possible.”

The woman did not live in the area.

Insp Harbison urged the two men to “do the right thing” and surrender to police.

“It is a tragedy to lose a young life in such a violent manner so we will get to the bottom of it, that’s the best thing we can do for the family at the moment,’’ he said.
