Travel is a key subject area for us, even though WISH is not a travel magazine per se.

We like to say that we report on “the best of everything” each month and in our quest to do that we do seem to travel a lot. Over the past 10 years we’ve produced several editions dedicated to a single destination and they have been some of our most popular and frequently asked-for issues.

The thing about being a constant traveller is you become an expert on it even if you don’t realise it at the time. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked, “where should I stay in [insert any city you like]?” or for a back copy of one of our themed editions, I would be a rich man. OK, maybe not that rich, but being routinely asked for travel advice has made me realise that WISH has built up a valuable resource of information on cities around the world.

This special issue of WISH (with The Australian today, and online) brings together a lot of the information we are most often asked for — where to stay in a variety of European cities — into one place. Research conducted for The Australian into the habits of our readers told us that 30 per cent were planning on travelling to Europe in the next 12 months. So for that reason we decided to produce a guide to the best hotels of Europe drawn from stories in our archive. The hotel information on our website has been updated and revised and we’ve also added in a few new ones. We hope you find it a valuable resource for planning your next European holiday.

Our research also told us that our readers were more likely to be planning an overseas holiday than the rest of the population so we thought we’d produce something extra to inspire you. Next year we will launch a new spin-off magazine called WISH Travel — the name pretty much says it all. It will be a special travel edition of WISH published twice a year with all original content; our first edition will be published with The Australian in April.
