Road Test: Mayka toy block tape
This invention could be the missing link for playtime.
What is it? Sticky-backed rubber tape, imprinted with Lego nipples.
Beg pardon? Well, how else to describe the nipplish protrusions that enable Lego blocks to grip each other? In engineer-speak, they’re the male part of the male/female joint. So, Lego schlongs. Is that better? That’s worse.
Anyway, what’s this stuff for? It opens up a load of new play possibilities. Just cut off a length of the tape – it comes in a 2m roll – and stick it to walls, ceilings, other toys, the family dog, siblings’ faces, etc. Then build on to it!
Pros: It’s compatible with all the major toy block brands including Lego, Mega Bloks and Kre-O.
Cons: The packaging is a total pain to get into. “Now here’s a good lesson,” I said to the children, wisely. “Watch how a little patience, common sense and dexterity will get it open.” Five minutes later I was furiously slashing at it with a box-cutter.
