Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 sneakers are about to drop
And we have all the details.
The countdown is on for the release of the highly anticipated Louis Vuitton and Nike Air Force 1 by Virgil Abloh sneaker collection.
We won’t see lines snaking around Australia’s Louis Vuitton boutiques on July 19, but the country’s sneaker buffs will no doubt be poised by their laptops awaiting the moment the French fashion house releases the range at 6pm.
Nine of 47 bespoke sneakers, which were created by Abloh to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Nike’s iconic Air Force 1 design, are being released commercially via the luxury brand’s online store.
The late designer and Louis Vuitton Men’s Artistic Director presented the collection at the French fashion house’s Spring Summer 2022 men’s show in July last year.
Abloh died in November that year at the age of 41, following a private two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma.
In February two hundred pairs of the Louis Vuitton and Nike Air Force 1 special edition designs sold for more than $35 million AUD at auction, with the proceeds donated to The Virgil Abloh Post-Modern Scholarship Fund.
The mid-top and low-top styles, which are crafted by Louis Vuitton craftsmen at the fashion house’s footwear factory in Veneto, Italy, are priced at $5000 and $4000 respectively and available in Nike US men’s fit sizes (3.5 to 18).
The styles come in a range of colourways and feature variations of the Louis Vuitton monogram and Damier Azur print as well as Abloh’s signature quotation marks.
In May the 47-style collection was exhibited at Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse in Brooklyn, New York, with the artistic visionary also set to be honoured next year in the borough with Brooklyn Museum’s Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech” exhibition.
