Australian luxury brand Dion Lee is gearing up for a Taylor Swift sales boost after the pop superstar turned up at the Super Bowl wearing one of crochet corset tops

This comes as the “Taylor Swift effect” is boosting retailers ahead of sold out concerts in Melbourne and Sydney which kick off this week.

Swift was spotted a suite alongside her A-list friend Blake Lively and fellow singers Ice Spice and Lana Del Ray at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, cheering on her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce.

The crochet corset top is available online for Australians at $650.

Sydney based designer Dion Lee was founded in 2009, by its creative director, Dion Lee, and is renowned for experimental construction combined with traditional tailoring, the brand has pioneered a modern identity for Australian fashion.

Dion Lee is sold globally in over 40 of the world’s most exclusive retailers including Net-A-Porter, Selfridges and Lane Crawford.

Australia is home to six flagship stores, each designed to reflect the constructed nature of the product, in an environment that is both industrial and luxurious.

In 2013, family owned Cue Clothing Co acquired a shareholding stake in Dion Lee as part of a strategic partnership to develop and accelerate the brand’s domestic and international growth.

Mr Lee could not be reached for a comment as he was travelling in the US.

Cue Clothing executive director Justin Levis, said he is confident the Dion Lee brand is on a trajectory to affirm itself as a global brand.

“It’s unique creative appeal is inspired by art and music and embraces gender in all expressions,” Mr Levis said.

Retail guru Gary Mortimer said “consumers are constantly looking at what celebrities are wearing and hope to secure similar if not the same product.”

The QUT professor said there is a link between celebrities, sports stars and royals wearing an outfit and it “immediately selling out online and in store.”

The Dion Lee crochet top has so far has sold out in multiple sizes.

Dr Mortimer said despite the cost of living, Swift fans will fork out hundreds to dollars to recreate Swift’s style.

“Despite the cost of living, if you are a big Taylor Swift fan and she happens to be wearing an outfit that is accessible to you, you will make a decision to procure that item despite the cost of living crisis,” Dr Mortimer said.

“When it comes to fashion celebrity endorsement is a critical factor for retailers.”

“Consumers have new ways to procure products. Certainly the growth of buy now pay later has enabled consumers to purchase expensive clothing and repay that over several months.”

Google has since reported searches for the term “sequins” at an all-time high in Australia, a google spokeswoman said it is directly linked to the tour and its local leg, which kicks off in Melbourne on Friday.

Brisbane online retailer Beginning Boutique owner Sarah Timmerman, said the “Taylor Swift effect” has had a positive impact on her business which sold more than 4000 sequined items since January.

“The Taylor Swift effect is very real, and it is a really welcome change for Australian retail for sure,” Ms Timmerman said.

“We have always gotten behind festivals – I think that’s the opportunity.”

Ms Timmerman said the “in your era” collection had the highest sell through rate that the retailer has had for a collection without an influencer.
