GQ celebrates the year’s most outstanding men
Australia’s most talented, stylish and notable men – and some equally notable women – will descend on Sydney tonight to celebrate the return of GQ Men of the Year Awards.
Australia’s most talented, stylish and notable men – and some equally notable women – will descend on Sydney on Wednesday night to celebrate the return of GQ’s Men of the Year Awards in association with Boss.
The awards, paused for 2020 and last year due to Covid, will honour Australia’s top actors, sports stars, change-makers and creatives, with the GQ 2022 Man of the Year to be announced at Crown Sydney.
Russell Crowe, Jordan Barrett, Justin Hemmes, Catherine Martin and Murray Bartlett are among the notable guests attending the 14th annual black-tie event.
For Barrett, who arrived in Sydney on Tuesday especially for the event as a guest of Boss, it is a chance to celebrate with friends after an 18-month absence from the city.
The model, now based in London, will be presenting one of the 16 awards on the night, seven years after winning Man of the Year at the age of 18.
“It’s always a great time and an opportunity to have everyone together in one room,” he said.
Barrett won’t be partying until the wee hours, however, with the model in training for next year’s Ironman Brazil triathlon following his completion of the New York Marathon earlier this month.
“I raised more than $30,000 for the Bowery Mission, which supports youth homelessness and recovery,” he said. “Now I have my eye set on the Brazilian triathlon; it’s the next goal … that will be a lot tougher.”
GQ editor Jake Millar said there was a lot of anticipation ahead of the awards after its two-year pause.
“What sets the GQ Men of the Year apart in some ways is that although there are award ceremonies for TV, music, these awards really cover the full spectrum – music, sport, arts, entertainment, you name it – so it really does offer a snapshot of the talent we have in Australia,” he said.
A special edition liftout of the magazine, which became a digital-only title last year, will appear in The Australian on Friday.
