Carla Zampatti recovering from fall at Opera opening night

The beloved Australian designer is currently recovering in hospital in Sydney.

Australian fashion designer Carla Zampatti is currently in hospital in Sydney following a fall on Friday night.

In a statement from a family spokesperson, The Australian understands the following: “Carla Zampatti had a fall at the Opera on Sydney Harbour on Friday night and is currently in hospital for observation.

“Carla is very grateful for the support from medically trained members of the audience who assisted and for the excellent care from the team at St Vincents Hospital.”

Those that saw the designer before the show reported her to be looking well in a longline black skirt ensemble amid the opening night audience of La Traviata.

Zampatti is considered the matriarch of the Australian fashion industry, having launched her eponymous label in 1965.

The designer is as renowned for her business acumen as her classic designs, which are beloved of politicians, leading businesswomen including Shemara Wikramanayake and Ita Buttrose, and celebrities including Tina Arena and Marta Dusseldorp.
