Royal family share Mother’s Day tributes
The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared new photographs on the first Mothering Sunday since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have released new photographs of Kate with their three children to celebrate the UK’s Mother’s Day – the first since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
In one photo, Kate sits smiling in a tree surrounded by Prince Louis, 4, Prince George, 9 and Princess Charlotte, 7. She wears a crisp, creamy broderie anglaise blouse from one of her favoured high street labels, MiH Jeans ($463), dark wash jeans, and white canvas Superga Cotu sneakers ($110).
It’s a pared-down outfit from the princess who tends to favour sartorial dresses and prim custom coats. It’s all quite whimsical – a health insurance advertisement meets the 1993 film adaptation of The Secret Garden.
The photos, were shot by award-winning photographer Matt Porteous, who frequently works with the Waleses. He has documented key moments for the family including Louis’s christening, the family’s 2018 “hay bales” Christmas card, and their tour of the Caribbean in March 2021.
These photos were taken at the grounds of their country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk last year, during a shoot for their annual family Christmas card.
A second photograph shows Kate smiling down at Louis in her arms. The photos were shared on social media with the caption, “Happy Mother’s Day from our family to yours”.
This was the first Mother’s Day since the death of Queen Elizabeth on September 8 aged 96. The royal family posted a tribute to the late Queen on their Twitter account, sharing a photo of King Charles as a baby, smiling as he stands on his mother’s lap.
“To all mothers everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mums today, we are thinking of you and wishing you a special #MothersDay,” the caption read. Another photo in the same tweet honoured the Queen Consort’s mother, Rosalind Shand, who died in 1994, aged 72.

In 2021, Prince William and Kate revealed that each year their children wrote Mother’s Day cards in remembrance of their late grandmother, Diana, Princess of Wales. In a message accompanying the cards, Kensington Palace wrote that Mother’s Day “may be particularly challenging” for those experiencing bereavement.
