Princess Mary arrives at the Coronation of King Charles III
The Australian-born Danish princess put her unique spin on dressing for the Coronation.
From her days working in Australian real estate to becoming a member of the Danish royal family, Crown Princess Mary has always been known for a classic, understated brand of regal dressing. Attending the Coronation of King Charles III, however, the royal embodied a celebratory hue for the occasion: deep purple.
A day earlier, at the Coronation reception for overseas guests held at Buckingham Palace, Princess Mary wore a mid-length pink dress with princess shoulders, by Singapore-born UK designer Andrew Gn. She paired the look with a beaded blue clutch and beige leather stiletto heels.
Known for his enduring silhouettes in monochromatic colours, it’s a perfect fit among Mary’s rotation of understated formal ensembles. The exact piece is no longer sold, but a shorter version of Mary’s dress in white is currently available on Net-A-Porter.
The Coronation of King Charles III is being attended by many royals and heads of state from around the world. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his partner, Jodie Haydon, are among those that attending the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, as well as former foreign minister and ANU chancellor Julie Bishop. The last coronation of a British Monarch that took place was 70 years ago, for Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
