Lila Moss covers Vogue Australia for the first time
Embodying the same prowess for style as mum Kate Moss, the up-and-coming model is ready to carve out her own place in fashion.
Lila Moss, 22, is a supermodel in the making. After making her runway debut for Miu Miu five years ago, she is well on her way to becoming a fashion powerhouse, just like her legendary mother Kate Moss. With numerous campaigns under her belt – including Burberry, Fendi and H&M – Moss is also now a first time cover star for Vogue Australia, fronting the magazine’s June issue. “I feel like I’ve got more confident being on set, even compared to last year,” she told the magazine in her interview. “I know more people on set now, know how it works and how I like to be. I think it makes you feel more confident and then you are able to come into yourself more.”
Moss shares her mother’s distinct prowess in front of the camera. “I’ve learned how to go into the zone right before and check in with all the different parts of my body,” the model shared. “I’m like, ‘Okay, this is the energy you wanna put out.’” Her mother continues to have a big influence on her life, particularly clothes-wise. “Sometimes I’ll find something in the countryside, in my mum’s wardrobe – borrowing a T-shirt – then I’ll see something, and say, ‘Wait, can I borrow that for Glastonbury?’ months in advance,” Moss told Vogue Australia’s June issue.
And it’s not just her famous mother the model owes her support to, she’s also found a tight-knit group of friends, all of whom are part of a next-gen creative set. This new ‘Brit pack’ includes Stevie Sims, daughter of fashion designer Luella Bartley and photographer David Sims; Iris Law, daughter of actors Sadie Frost and Jude Law; and Stella Jones, daughter of film producer Miranda Davis and The Clash’s Mick Jones. “It’s grounding to have friends that work really hard and support you and understand what you do,” Moss said. “They’re real.”
She’s passionate, ambitious, and loves a good musical festival, telling Vogue Australia that her favourite bands include Fontaines DC and The Marias. “If the music’s good, I can dance anywhere,” she shares. “At Glastonbury I have a lot of fun… I’m really looking forward to it.” But what she’s looking forward to, outside of live music with her friends, is “continuing to work with super-inspiring people,” in the ultra creative fantasy world of high fashion runways. “Every time it’s kind of like wow. Every time. I remember Fendi Couture was wow and that was only my second show…Every time I get to walk a show it’s exciting.”
Vogue Australia’s June issue is on sale Monday, June 2.
