It’s not every day you meet an interior designer to the stars. And when it comes to celebrity clientele, it doesn’t get much brighter than those of Brittaney Elise. With clients such as Zendaya, Selena Gomez and Michael B. Jordan, the founder of BE. by Brittaney Elise is well-attuned to the needs of her high-end clients, who tend to require privacy, individuality and customisation. For the designer, her practice has been a lifelong vocation. “My love of design originated in childhood — I always knew this was my calling,” says Elise. “My natural gifts and talents supported this path with ease.” After graduating California State University Northridge with a degree in Interior Architecture, Elise worked with various design and architecture firms before establishing BE. By Brittaney Elise in 2012. And she hasn’t looked back since.

“I would describe my design style as warm, elevated, clean, juxtaposed with a touch of eclecticism,” says Elise. “I believe producing a successful design begins within my own heart of home — constantly and consistently living inspirationally. I’ve always approached designing for a client with a feeling process; feeling the space; the vibe, learning the energy that a client already carries; feeling the colours, hues, textures, and emotions that different design elements evoke in relation to the client and the space.”

While Elise has a number of ultra-high net worth and celebrity clients, she argues that their needs are no less different than the average person. “When it comes to redefining the design of a home, it is a truly personal, sacred space,” she explains. “Everyone feels some degree of desire to feel safe and absolutely comfortable within the walls of [their home].” Elise argues that all houses need to feel lived in, and she relishes working with clients to uncover their personal design style. “I’ve taken the path less travelled in my design career in that I don’t choose to press my personal design aesthetic onto every client project, but rather I’ve chosen to use my expertise to pull a personal aesthetic out of each client and bring a unique dream space to life,” she says.

While some clients prefer to bring their vision to the table, Elise also has clients who don’t know what they want or are too busy to ruminate on details. “I work to honour what feels true to every client’s personal taste alongside their functional needs to create unique interiors that support the storytelling of what makes their lives so special to them at home,” she says. “I’m constantly asking how we can think outside of the boxes that already exist and create something beautifully new and personalised together.”
