Swimming legend turned television personality Giaan Rooney has bought an investment property on the Gold Coast, just a few doors down from her Broadbeach Waters family home. The Seven presenter has paid $750,000 for a three-bedroom waterfront and is seeking a $620 a week tenant. Rooney and her husband Sam Levett paid $860,000 for a 1970s single-level waterfront down the road when they moved from Melbourne in 2015. They have since demolished the residence. Rooney’s greatest achievement in the pool was a gold medal in the 4 x 100m medley relay at 2004 Olympics. The team broke the world record and it was Australia’s first win in the event. Rooney went into TV, after retiring from swimming in 2006. She became a holiday season weather presenter on Channel Nine’s Today, filling in for Steven Jacobs. Rooney joined Seven in 2012 as a fill-in weather presenter and took on the role full-time in 2013.

Moreno family jumps ship

A near-new home on the seaside strip at Middle Park, designed by Bojan Simic Architecture to resemble a ship, has been listed for sale. The luxury residence at 203 Beaconsfield Parade has been listed by Chisholm & Gamon, Elwood, agent Torsten Kasper. After its construction it was listed because the owners, the Moreno family, are spending most of their time overseas. Offers are due by October 9, with a price guide of $6.9m to $7.5m for the three-bedroom home with 150sq m of terraces and 370sq m of internal space.

Yarra and city views

Paul H Dainty and Moreen Anderson, authors of the mid-1990s publication The Capable Executive, have spent $1.5 million on an apartment in Melbourne’s Docklands. On the 27th floor in the 2013 built Yarra Point building, it has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study. A balcony looks out over the Yarra River and the city skyline. The unit last traded for $1.59m in 2013.

Another Wallaby on the hop

Japan-based former Wallaby Hugh McMeniman has sought to offload his Brisbane investment apartment. The former Western Force lock indicated a willingness to take a hit on the Fortitude Valley apartment that cost $540,000 off the plan in 2012. It was listed in the mid-$400,000s by McMeniman, who has been based in Japan since 2014 when he joined Honda Heat. Set on the top level of the Precinct Apartments, the 72sq m unit has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a balcony with city views. Newstead Realty agent Robert Lamprecht recently pulled the unit from the market due to it being tenanted. McMeniman, nicknamed ‘‘Madness’’, and wife Georgia spent $1.45m on a four bedroom home in Auchenflower last year. He has represented the Wallabies 22 times. Melbourne-based Wallabies star Sean McMahon is also offloading his Brisbane investment property as he prepares to move to Japan. He bought the two-bedroom apartment in Norman Park off the plan for $629,000 last year.
