East’s Gold Coast house on sale
Former Mantra CEO Bob East and wife Susan have listed their Gold Coast home for sale. East left the tourism accommodation company he floated just a few days ago after the Accor takeover. The Sorrento property cost $2.77m in 2014 when known as Riviera Lodge. The 2370sq m double waterfront block holds a 10m swimming pool, spa, cabana with outdoor kitchen and a tennis court. The home has a 710sq m floorplan with five bedrooms and bathrooms. There’s also a 9m pontoon facility. Michael Kollosche at Kollosche Prestige Agents has a $3.995m asking price. East, the chair of Tourism Australia, reckons he needs a new project, hence the listing. The property was owned by the former Rolls-Royce car dealer David Baird and wife Marion in the mid-1990s.
Rockmount estate listed
Rockmount at Longwood East, the thoroughbred pre-training centre graced by 2009 Melbourne Cup winner Shocking and 2008 Cox Plate winner Maldivian, has been listed for sale. The 65ha property in the Strathbogie Ranges, 150km north east of Melbourne, has been listed by former accountant Geoff Guest and wife Jill Kewish. They bought the property in 2006 when it was a component of The Vinery racing and breeding development. Guest was a director at Count Financial. Rockmount has a unique four-wing X-shape steel and covered stable block that houses 30 boxes. A three-bedroom, two- bathroom home with pool sits on the estate, as does a three-bedroom manager’s cottage. Pat Rice & Hawkins agents Matt and Rob Childs are marketing the property. Geoff and Jill say they will probably relocate to a smaller holding in the local area of Strathbogie Shire.
Dempsey’s Mermaid Beach pad
Brisbane entrepreneur Michael Dempsey has joined the Albatross Avenue dress circle at Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast. Dempsey, who founded and sold Ezidebit, an innovative payment method, paid $2.165m for a 1970s cottage on a 410sq m corner block 40m from the beach. The two-storey house with two bedrooms last traded for $1.315m in 2011. It was once owned by Sybil Jennings and Isobel Deacon, who owned Carousel women’s fashion label and retail outlets. Harcourts Coastal agent Katrina Walsh sold the property that adds to his earlier nearby holdings on Surf Street. Dempsey sold Ezidebit to US-based Global Payments for more than $300m in 2014, and pocketed $150m himself. He is on the board of property research company Onthehouse Holdings.
