Former Melbourne Business School Zeger Degraeve on the move
Zeger Degraeve, a former dean of Melbourne Business School, has sold his Middle Park home.
Zeger Degraeve, a former dean of Melbourne Business School, sold his Middle Park home midweek. The two-level modernised 1900s Victorian-era home cost Degraeve $1.72 million in 2012, when it was bought from former Melbourne AFL player Alistair Nicholson, lately Australian Cricketers’ Association CEO, and wife Julia. Its extension was designed by Matt Gibson and was short-listed in the Australian Institute of Architects’ National Architecture Awards. The four-bedroom home, featuring a classic arched hallway entrance, was listed through Cayzer Real Estate Albert Park agent Simon Carruthers, who had a guide of $2.4m-$2.6m for its auction last weekend. It was sold at $2.65m. Degraeve retired as the dean last year after six years in the role.
Doctor no longer in the house
Nardoo, a Riddells Creek country property in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, has been listed by Paul Carter, who published his memoirs in his book Tales of a Country Doctor and in his 2014 publication, Further Tales of a Country Doctor. Since being taken up in the late 1880s, the 165ha estate has been owned by only a few. Ivor Manton, one of two brothers who ran the then prestigious Manton’s department store, was among them. During World War II, prisoners of war were kept at the property. Four Italian prisoners worked on the farm by day and were locked up in an outbuilding at night. Nardoo is split in to three lots and has three houses, stables, a tennis court and a three-hole golf course. The main house was designed by Alistair Knox in the 1970s. Kennedy & Hunt agent Jason Kennedy has the listing, with $4m-$4.4m hopes.
Paradise pad for lease
The redundant Surfers Paradise holiday home of Melbourne tech giant Taisen Maddern and wife Karen is up for lease, having failed to sell for more than a year. They’re asking $2800 a week. The home had $5.38m hopes, cut from its initial $6.45m listing last year. Michael Kollosche, who has the “for sale” listing back, is also the leasing agent. The three-bedroom feng shui-inspired waterfront was built for developer Stephen Solomon, who sold the Phil Morton-designed home to the Madderns for $5m in 2010. It has a heated saltwater pool. In 2003, Maddern founded wireless headphone maker BlueAnt, the headphones of choice for the Apple Watch.
Wallaby hops into market
Australian rugby union star Dane Haylett-Petty secured a Perth investment, just before he joined the Melbourne Rebels. The 28-year-old winger, who joined the Rebels after the Western Force were axed from Super Rugby, paid $850,000 for a home in Scarborough, in northwest Perth near the beach. The 1960s three-bedroom home has been since tenanted at $480 a week. Haylett-Petty snapped the home up just one day in to its marketing through Mack Hall agent Greg Williams. Dane and his brother Ross were part of the Western Force team. They both headed to Melbourne to join the Rebels on two-year deals.
