Art patrons Rae-ann Sinclair and Nigel Williams have sold their South Yarra penthouse apartment crowning The Lowndes development. Kay & Burton agent Ross Savas had a recent guide of $5.3 million-$5.8m for the apartment, which was filled with some of the Sydney-bound couple’s prized pieces. It was home to one of Michael Parekowhai’s Kapa Haka sculptures in the lounge. The gallery-inspired four-bedroom, four-bathroom apartment features a hotel-like master bedroom suite, complete with dressing room, gym and study. The apartment, with 380sq m of internal space, is wrapped in entertaining terraces.
Racing boss heads to the beach
Former Racing Victoria chairman David Moodie and wife Jennifer have bought Cottonwood, the luxury far north Queensland retreat at Oak Beach, south of Port Douglas. It had been on the market since 2015, when it had ambitious hopes of $7.95m. The Moodies paid $3m for the beachfront 1.9ha property with a contemporary beach-style main residence and a two-bedroom guesthouse set in tropical gardens.
Complete with pool, tennis court and boatshed, and direct access to the beach, the home was sold by Queensland Sotheby’s agent Barbara Wolveridge in conjunction with Ray White’s Mark Flynn. It was sold by former mining executive David Lucas and wife Jane, who paid $3.2m in 2005. The Moodies recently downsized at their Sydney bolthole, selling their Darlinghurst sub-penthouse for $3.985m and spending $1.65m on an apartment below. They sold their Moonee Ponds home in 2011 for $5.25m, while retaining a Carlton home and a weekender in the Macedon Ranges.
Events pair on the move
Bob and Gai Carroll, founders and managing directors of Australian Events, one of the country’s leading event management companies, have listed their Queensland home. The Mount Lofty home near Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, was built in 2002 and has five bedrooms, an office and swimming pool on 1325sq m. McGrath Toowoomba agents Brendan Mayles and Toby Sandell have a December 15 auction. The Carrolls paid $920,000 in 2016. They established Australian Events in 1987 and operate 15 major events in Queensland every year.
Double blow for Marsh
Axed Australian Test cricketer Mitchell Marsh has taken a loss on his Perth home. He found a quick buyer for the Bicton home that cost him $2.5m in 2016, but sold for $2.38m. The 2013-built home on 1010sq m has four bedrooms, a theatre room, wine cellar and library. A heated pool and spa sit in the garden. One Residential agent Shane Beaumont sold the home. Marsh, who was dropped for the first Test against India, also owns in Fremantle. Brother Shaun was also based in Bicton until recently. He did slightly better, but only made a $5000 profit on his home that cost him and wife Rebecca $1.725m in 2014. They’ve upgraded to a $2.1m home in Applecross.
