Apple and Microsoft recently dazzled us with the iPad Pro and Surface Book. They are the new kids on the block for quality mobile computing. But they’re not the only new Windows 10 notebooks around.
Acer Aspire R14. With its anodised metal case, the Aspire R14 is thin at 18.5mm and weighs 1.9kg. It has a 360-degree hinge for laptop, tablet, tent and display modes. It has a sixth-generation Intel Core i5 processor, full HD display, 4GB or 8GB of memory and 128GB or 256GB solid-state drive storage. There’s one USB2.0 port, two USB3.0 ports and the new USB-C. $1119 and $1499.
Dell XPS 13. Dell’s 13.3-inch ultra-thin laptop has a virtually borderless display. It means less bezel and more viewing space. There’s 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid-state drive in the entry-level model. The top-of-the-range XPS 13 Gold has a Core i7 processor, 8GB of memory and a 256GB solid-state drive. From $1636 to $2363.
Toshiba Satellite Radius 12. Toshiba says this is the world’s first 12.5-inch convertible notebook with a Technicolor Color Certified 4K ultra HD display. It’s powered by a sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor with 8GB of memory, a 512GB solid-state drive, HDMI out, one USB3.1 port and two USB3.0 ports. $2799.
Asus ZenBook UX305. This ultrabook is extremely thin at 12.3mm and weighs just 1.2kg. It has distinctive spun metal casing and a bright full HD or quad HD display, a 170-degree viewing angle and anti-glare coating. There are three USB3.0 ports, 4GB or 8GB of memory and a 128GB solid-state drive. $999 to $1299.
