No retail sector has embraced Black Friday quite like tech has. Over time, it’s become the one day each year where products that never get discounted are discounted, which makes it worth waiting for if you need a new phone, laptop, camera or TV. The stakes, however, can be quite high. With millions of people preparing to log on and snap up a deal, the good stuff tends to go fast. We’re not trying to psych you out or anything, but believe us: it pays to plan ahead by prioritising what you’d like to purchase.

This year, Black Friday will take place on November 27 in Australia. But most retailers will have deals running throughout the weekend, as the sales event doesn’t typically end until November 30th, which is known as Cyber Monday.
To help you separate the good deals from the mediocre ones, we’ve farmed the internet for a curated edit of the tech retailers hosting the most unmissable Black Friday sales in 2020.

Speakers, headphones & audio:

Apple Airpods

Though Apple don’t typically do Black Friday sales, some authorised Apple retailers — such as Australian discount retailer Catch — do. Right now, Catch has Apple Airpods Pro listed at $80 off (from $399 to $318), with 2nd Gen Airpods down from $249 to $209.

Beats by Dr Dre

David Jones is offering up to 50 per cent off selected products as part of its Black Friday sale, including multiple styles of the wildly popular Beats headphones. It’s rare the wireless models go on sale, so now is a great time to snap these over-ear speakers up.

Bang & Olufson ‘Beoplay’ speaker

At $3700, Bang & Olufson’s state of the art ‘Beoplay’ is a solid investment purchase. But David Jones is knocking $700 of its RRP, bringing it one step closer to put-it-on-the-credit-card territory. We condone.

Sonos ‘One’, ‘Move’ & ‘Beam’ speakers

If you haven’t already pimped out your entertaining area with some Sonos, this Black Friday is the perfect excuse. The American speaker aficionados are offering massive savings across their entire range, including $220 off its Indoor-Outdoor Set. A summer must-have for any serious host.

Bose headphones and wireless ear pods

It may have started it’s pre-Black Friday sales earlier this week, but there’s still plenty of bargains to be found at Bose online, including the SoundSport Free wireless headphones, which GQ Australia recently ranked among its best true wireless earbuds of 2020.

Mobile phones:

Motorola Razr 5G

Yes, the humble Razr is back in a big way. Paris Hilton’s favourite has had a 2020 upgrade and as part of its Black Friday sale, the generous folk at Motorola are taking it from $2,299 down to $1,839. That’s hot.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

If a half-price Samsung Galaxy sounds good to you, make sure you head to the tech giant’s website before it’s cleaned out. The Z Flip has gone from $1,999 to $999, which makes us feel slightly sorry for anyone that’s purchased the phone full price. You win some, you lose some.

Google Pixel 5

It only hit the market just over a month ago, but Vodafone is slicing around $250 off the RRP this Black Friday. If you’re looking for a new smartphone with an iPhone grade camera (but without an iPhone price tag), we recommend giving the Pixel a look-in.

Lenovo is offering up to 60 per cent off selected laptops and think pads, such as the top-rated ThinkPad E14, which you can currently save up to $1099 on. To cash in, head to the Lenovo website for its Black Friday code.

Dyson is also offering discounts across select air purifiers and hair dryers, so why not buy it all?
