Friends reunion to stream on Binge
Binge has announced the Friends reboot will be available to watch in Australia at the same time as the rest of the world.
It’s the reunion everyone’s been talking about, but not everyone thought they were going to be able to see it - until now.
Australian fans of the Friends franchise feared the reunion was only going to air in the US, but the streaming service Binge has announced the long-awaited reboot will be available to watch at the same time as the rest of the world.
The one-off special, Friends: The Reunion, will stream on Binge at 5:02pm AEST on Thursday 27 May and will feature guest appearances from some of the world’s biggest stars, including David Beckham, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Cindy Crawford and Kit Harrington.
It will also see the return of some familiar faces to the cast like Maggie Wheeler as Janice, Reese Witherspoon as Rachel’s sister Jill, James Michael Tyler as Gunther and Tom Selleck who played Monica’s ex-boyfriend Richard.
The unscripted reunion, aptly titled The One Where They Get Back Together, will mark the show’s 25th anniversary after being pushed back due to coronavirus. Filming wrapped on April 11.
“Friends doesn’t need an introduction - it’s simply iconic,” Binge executive director Alison Hurbert-Burns said. “The show that delivered us Rachel, Joey, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Ross remains as popular today as it was when it aired.
“With fans holding out hope for a reunion for years, Binge is delighted to bring Friends: The Reunion to Australians and have it join all 10 seasons of Friends already available to stream on Binge. I’ll be on the couch joining the rest of Australia at 5pm next Thursday to watch along with the world.”
When the reunion was first announced, the lead actors set fans into frenzy by sharing the same photo on their separate Instagram accounts with caption: “It’s happening.”
In the official trailor, which dropped on Thursday, fans were given a glimpse of the upcoming show, including some of fandom’s favorite moments.
Original sets, iconic lines and unforgettable scenes were also revisited in the footage.
