A roundup of some of the stories that have popped up in our Facebook and Twitter feeds this week which were too good not to share, including a stunning glacier rupture, the body art taking online by storm, a giraffe’s shaky first steps and #CelebrityHouseHats

(MASSIVE) CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK

This is one of the most sunning videos we have seen this year - but if you want to watch this remarkable natural phenomenon in person you have a few years to wait.

Those tourists lucky enough to be in southern Argentina witnessed the Perito Moreno Glacier rupture, which happened for the first time in four years. Millions more have viewed it on Facebook since.

Every couple of years, the glacier advances over Lake Argentina and pressure created by the height of dammed water breaks through the ice barrier, causing the spectacular breakage.

The Perito Moreno is approximately 250 square kilometres, with its walls towering 70 metres above sea level.

BODY LINE

Los Angeles artist Jody Steel cleverly uses her own body as a canvas to create stunning pieces of art - and this Body Image Timelapse has certainly struck a chord, garnering millions of views this week.

Jody writes about her own battles with the issue of body image underneath the video.

“There have been times I’ve look in a mirror and wished for a perfect figure. No matter how much I went to the gym or how little I ate carbs and sugar, I still didn’t see what I imagined was perfect. Once I realized that naturally, I don’t have a coke bottle figure, or long and thin legs, I began to let go of the pressures I’ve felt to fulfill an image that our society has deemed the pinnacle of beauty.”

BETTE BURNS KIM

If you have been on the internet this week, there is absolutely no doubt that you would have caught a glimpse of Kim Kardashian’s naked body.

Coinciding with International Women’s Day, the mother of two posted a nude selfie with two strategically placed black bars, just thirteen weeks after giving birth to son Saint.

Now, Kim Kardashian has broken the internet with explicit photos before. But Bette Midler’s response to this latest post caught out attention this week.

Kim quickly fired back, clearly inspired by husband Kanye’s recent Twitter rants.

Nice try Kim, but we think Bette won this round. ‘Til next time.

HAT TRICK

Hats off to David Canningham for coming up with the most ridiculous hashtag of the week, #CelebrityHouseHats. It didn’t take long for the hashtag to go viral as twitter users photoshopped images (albeit terribly) of celebrities wearing houses as hats. Why not build one yourself? All you need is a celebrity with a name that sounds like a building and away you go.

THROWING A WOBBLY

How adorable is this baby giraffe who was born at Dubbo’s Taronga Western Plains Zoo last week? The young giraffe, named Amahle, which means “beautiful one” in Zulu joins another female calf Zane, who was born just weeks ago. Despite a wobbly start, it’s remarkable how she walks within moments of being born.

FREE TATTOOS FOR GOOD CAUSE

Brisbane tattoo artist Whitney Develle made some waves this week after her Instagram post, pledging one to two days a week of her time to give free tattoos to people hoping to cover up old scars.

The 22-year-old clarified that while the scars could be remainders of self-harm, she would not be working on those who were currently self-harming, urging those who are to seek professional help.

While she’s now fully booked out, she says other tattoo artists in her area have contacted her to offer similar services.

“I am so glad that mental illness is being brought in to the light and that people are reaching out for help,” she said.
