Pete Evans paleo cookbook for kids, Bubba Yum Yum, ‘shelved’
Bubba Yum Yum, a cookbook for toddlers co-authored by TV chef Pete Evans, has been ‘shelved’ by its publisher.
SERIOUS health concerns have been raised over Pete Evans’ latest cookbook, spruiking the paleo diet to parents of toddlers.
There is possibility that a baby will die if Bubba Yum Yum: The Paleo Way is released, says the Public Health Association of Australia.
The paleo diet baby cookbook, co-authored by celebrity chef Pete Evans, mummy blogger Charlotte Carr and naturopath Helen Padarin, has been “shelved” by publisher Pan Macmillan after a number of health officials raised their concerns with the Federal Department of Health.
“The Department of Health is aware of this publication and has concerns about the inadequate nutritional value of some of the recipes,” a statement read.

One of the book’s more controversial recipes is a DIY baby milk formula, made from liver and bone broth.
Public Health Association of Australia president Heather Yeatman says the formula could impair baby’s growth and development. “In my view, there’s a very real possibility that a baby may die if this book goes ahead,” professor Yeatman told Women’s Weekly. The PHAA has warned that this diet could potentially stunt a child’s growth or impair their development.
The paleo diet requires people to cut out grains, legumes, certain dairy products, conventionally raised meats, non-organic produce, genetically modified and processed foods.
In a statement, publisher Pan Macmillan Australia said the publication of Bubba Yum Yum: The Paleo Way had been delayed “but not recalled”.
“The publisher will be making no further comment at this time,” it added.
