Every Australian who attended the Met Gala 2023
This year’s influx of Australian attendees was proof of their outsize influence and star power on the world stage.
The Met Gala is, famously, the most coveted invitation out there. The guest list is made up of the biggest, most glittering and undeniably interesting people of the moment.
Some are regular attendees, others will make their debut on those famous steps to celebrate the Met Museum’s newest exhibition. This year the theme is in honour of the late and great Karl Lagerfeld with Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.
Australians are certainly no slouch when it comes to outsize influence and star power on the world stage. The influx of attendees from down under at this year’s Met Gala is proof of this.
This year the list of Australian attendees includes Margot Robbie, who has been setting the internet alight in photos from the Greta Gerwig-directed Barbie set, certain to be the year’s biggest film and Nicole Kidman, wearing the Chanel dress she wore in the famous Baz Luhrmann-directed Chanel No 5 campaign in 205.
Meanwhile Luhrmann, along with his wife, Catherine Martin — resplendent in Australian brand Romance Was Born — were also in attendance.
This year’s attendees join a slew of Australians who have made their mark on the Met Gala in previous years. This includes everyone from Cate Blanchett and Naomi Watts who have been regulars on the scene since the ‘90s to the likes of Troye Sivan and Rose Byrne.
Indeed Australian designers have certainly been well-represented at the Met Gala in recent years too.

Australian actor Kodi Smit-McPhee made his Met Gala debut in 2022, opting for a full leather look. This year he opted for a cool exaggerated lapel shirt, oversized jacket and lean trousers.
Nicole Kidman, no stranger to the Met Gala, wore the custom Chanel dress she wore for the Baz Luhrmann-directed CHANEL N°5 advertising campaign in 2004.
Kidman told Vogue of the dress, “I have the sketches when he was drawing it, and I remember fitting it repeatedly. I think my deep deep love of Karl came through this time so to be able to honour him and wear this dress for Chanel … The way these couture gowns last, if you take care of them they are timeless.”
Supermodel and Vogue Australia cover star Adut Akech has attended the Met Gala several times, making her debut in 2018. For her 2023 appearance Akech attended with Carolina Herrera creative director Wes Gordon.
Miranda Kerr, another regular Met Gala attendee, opted for an ethereal Dior by Maria Grazia Chiuri gown to attend the 2023 Met Gala Celebrating Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty.
