US Election Live: Hillary Clinton will not face email charges, says FBI
Donald Trump has gone on the attack after the FBI said it would not be charging Hillary Clinton over emails.
FBI Director James Comey told Congress in a letter that a review of newly discovered Hillary Clinton emails has “not changed our conclusions” from earlier this year that she should not face charges.
Sent just two days before the US Election Day, the letter appeared to resolve any lingering ambiguity over the prospect that the Democratic presidential nominee could yet face a criminal indictment over her use of a private email sever as secretary of state.
HERE IS HOW THE DAY PLAYED OUT
12.45pm:Trump’s narrow path to victory
After months of campaigning, the presidential race has come down to this: Democrat Hillary Clinton has several apparent paths to the White House, while Republican Donald Trump must sweep battleground states and seize at least one Democratic-leaning state.

12.15pm: Got a markets question?
Local stocks have rallied on the news Hillary Clinton is in the clear over her emails, but what will happen to global markets if Donald Trump finds his way to the White House?
12.05pm:‘Deliver justice at the ballot box’
Trump has been addressing supporters during a rally in the Detroit suburbs.
He claims it would have been impossible for the FBI to review what has been reported to be as many as 650,000 emails in so short a time and she is being protected by “a rigged system.”
“You can’t review 650,000 emails in eight days.”
“Hillary Clinton is guilty. She knows it, The FBI knows it. The people know it,” said Trump.
He says it’s now up to “the American people to deliver justice at the ballot box on November 8.”
11.15am:
As election day draws near, Clinton and Trump have released video campaigns aiming to bolster their base support.

10.45am:Trump’s election special
Trump, who is holding three rallies today, plans to continuing campaigning right through election day. His campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, said that, after voting early on Tuesday morning, Trump is expected to return to Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina and New Hampshire later in the day, Conway said.
10.20am:Pence unhappy over FBI
No surprise to hear Trump’s running mate Mike Pence is not impressed by the FBI’s conclusion to the Clinton emails investigation.
“Mishandling classified information is a crime,” Pence told the crowd during a rally in Hickory.

9.35am:Dollar jumps
The US dollar has jumped in Asia after FBI email announcement. The dollar climbed about 1.1 per cent against the yen to 104.30, while the euro slipped 0.7 per cent to $USUS1.1060 . The US currency also rose 1 per cent against the Swiss franc.
The Aussie dollar briefly spiked past US77c but by 8.14am, the dollar had slipped back to US76.88c.
9.20am: Net gains
Basketball star Lebron James has been campaigning with Clinton in Cleveland, hoping to motivate African-American voters to the polls.
9am:Ryan blasts Clinton
House Speaker Paul Ryan has not exactly been forward in his support for Trump but has released a statement saying Americans can end the Clinton era by voting for the Republican nominee.
Ryan said that regardless of the FBI’s decision today, Clinton put the country’s secrets at risk and compromised national security.
8.45am:Trump reaction
Donald Trump made no mention of the FBI Director James Comey’s announcement. But Trump, holding a rally in Minnesota on Sunday, did make his usual claim that Clinton “will be under investigation for a long, long time, likely concluding in a criminal trial.”
Trump went on to say that Clinton is “protected by a rigged system. She shouldn’t even be allowed to run for president.” Comey’s letter was released minutes before Trump took the stage in Minneapolis. He has three more rallies slated for later today.
8.35am:Clinton reaction
Clinton’s campaign welcomed the FBI announcement.
“We’re glad this matter is resolved,” Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s communications director, told reporters travelling with the campaign to Ohio. Clinton was infuriated by Comey’s decision to alert Congress late last month that the FBI was reviewing new materials, calling it “unprecedented” and “deeply troubling.”
8.30am:FBI ‘worked around the clock’
In a letter to congressional politicians two days before Election Day, Comey said the FBI has worked “around the clock to process and review a large number of emails” obtained from a device belonging to Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former congressman and estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin. Comey said the review has not changed the bureau’s assessment from earlier this year that Clinton should not be prosecuted for her handling of classified information at the State Department.
The decision shattered what had appeared to be Clinton’s solid grip on the race and emboldened Republican Donald Trump.
Last July, in an extraordinary public statement on an ongoing case, Comey announced he was not recommending criminal charges against Clinton and called the decision “not even a close call.” But he also delivered blistering criticism of Clinton, calling her and her team “extremely careless” with her handling of national secrets.
Clinton had appeared to be heading for a sweeping victory before the FBI review, but Comey’s announcement blunted her momentum. Since then, national polls and battleground states have tightened, though Clinton still appears to hold an edge over Trump in the campaign’s last moments.
