Bandt feels heat for pointscoring plug
GREENS Deputy Leader Adam Bandt has been accused of using the destructive NSW bushfires to launch a political attack.
GREENS Deputy Leader Adam Bandt has been accused of using the destructive NSW bushfires to launch a political attack on Tony Abbott's climate change policy.
Late yesterday afternoon, as firefighters battled the savage blazes and tried to save homes, Mr Bandt took to social media to promote an opinion piece he wrote for The Guardian online on Wednesday.
He tweeted: "Why Tony Abbott's plan means more bushfires for Australia & more pics like this of Sydney."
The photograph depicted a burnt-out and barren landscape on South Australia's Kangaroo Island after a bushfire, and the post linked to Mr Bandt's column entitled: "By repealing the carbon tax, Tony Abbott is failing to protect his people".

The story points to CSIRO research that predicts under extreme climate change, severe bushfires might happen once every two years. "Sadly, the Coalition shows no interest in ensuring that Australians on summer holidays will have less frequent bushfires, healthy oceans to fish in or thousands fewer deaths," Mr Bandt wrote in the piece.
The Greens MP's tweet drew immediate ire on the social network. Brisbane IT consultant Chris Cox wrote: "It is disgusting how you and your like use disasters for political pointscoring."
Technology commentator Trevor Long tweeted: "You're a sick man . . . There couldn't be a more low thing to tweet about and politicise while this beautiful place is burning."
However, others backed Mr Bandt's position. Greens member Ben Moroney, in response to criticism of Mr Bandt, said: "It's almost like we want to do our best to prevent disasters like this from happening again. Fancy that."
