In The Australian’s new podcast, Getting a Job in the post-COVID World, I spoke to federal Skills Minister Michaelia Cash and Deloitte’s Asia Pacific chief transformation officer Rob Hillard to discuss what skills people need and how best to learn them, to be ready for the post-COVID economic recovery.
● Ms Cash said that the training needed to enter 31 of the top 50 earning occupations can be done through vocational education.
● The federal government website yourcareer.gov.au can tell you what skills you need for a particularly job, taking in your previous experience, and what courses will give you those skills.
● Mr Hillard said vocational education can add a valuable “secondary skill” to your portfolio to make you stand out to employers.
● He said that while vocational education is important, traditional university courses must not be overlooked because they are critical for many professional jobs.
