New palette at National Art School

SUCCESSFUL applicants for teaching positions at Sydney's National Art School have been announced, confirming reports of dramatic change at the top.

SUCCESSFUL applicants for senior teaching positions at Sydney's National Art School have been announced, confirming reports of dramatic change at the top under the leadership of the new director Anita Taylor.

Four of the eight people announced are from outside institutions: the subject leader drawing, Maryanne Coutts, comes from Monash University; subject leader photomedia Christopher Stewart, comes from RMIT University; subject leader printmaking Patsy Payne, from the Australian National University; and art history and theory coordinator Michiel Dolk, is a freelance writer, researcher and curator.

The other four positions announced have been filled from within the school. Simon Cooper, the new head of academic studies had been acting in the role and was previously head of printmaking for eight years.

Chair of the school's board, PeterWatts, said in a statement the appointments had been made ``following a merit based and transparent recruitment process, led by the Director and endorsed by the Board.''

Two postions yet to be announced are those of postgraduate coordinator and subject leader, painting.
