Marcus Blackmore gives $10m to Southern Cross University
Marcus Blackmore given away another chunk of his natural health fortune to back research and education in naturopathic medicine.
Marcus Blackmore has used part of his fortune from natural health to give $10m to Southern Cross University for research and education in naturopathic medicine.
The donation, from the Blackmore Family Foundation, adds to a previous $10m gift in 2018 that helped establish the university’s National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine. “The NCNM has done a terrific job in such a short time and we are delighted to help fund this work into the future,” Mr Blackmore said.
The centre has set up a large clinical trial unit whose work included a world-first study of the use of medicinal cannabis for treating brain cancer and the use of natural medicines in treating vertigo, urinary tract infections and diabetes
Mr Blackmore’s wife, Caroline Furlong, who is a co-director of the Blackmore Family Foundation, said the centre had taken its work “to the next level with world-class research and education”.
Earlier this year the Blackmore foundation gave Western Sydney University $10m for its complementary medicine centre, the NICM Health Research Institute, and gave Griffith University $6.3m to establish the Blackmore chair in the business school.
