The University of Southern Queensland has appointed Jason Bainbridge as its new dean of humanities and communication.
Professor Bainbridge, who was previously executive dean of arts and design at the University of Canberra, said that studying humanities and communication gave students the “transferable skills that are essential to build a successful career in today’s increasingly complex world”.
“If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s how important transferable skills like critical thinking and creative problem-solving can be, no matter the industry you’re working in or what life throws at you,” he said.
“We don’t just train students for a job. We give them the skills to build a successful career.”
He said he wanted to make visible the importance of humanities in the current world.
Professor Bainbridge’s research focus is popular culture, particularly around the intersection of superheroes and law.
