In today’s Higher Ed Daily Brief: ACU leadership, private education win

Greg Craven reappointed at ACU

Australian Catholic University vice-chancellor Greg Craven will lead the university until at least 2022 after having his term extended yet again.

ACU’s chancellor — former NSW premier John Fahey — said he was proud of the advancement of the university under Professor Craven, who has been vice-chancellor since 2008. “ACU has evolved as a serious player in research in this country and internationally and has steadily moved up in university rankings across a range of categories,” Mr Fahey said.

He said that achievements included the opening of ACU’s Rome campus, the introduction of a core curriculum and the launch of ACU engagement.

Navitas joins COPHE

The Council of Private Higher Education (known to many as COPHE) has had a large win with news that mega private provider Navitas has joined as a member.

COPHE chief executive Simon Finn is no doubt far more excited than his statement would indicate. “COPHE is delighted to announce that Navitas has joined our organisation. Navitas is a great Australian company with a reputation for providing high-quality education to 70,000 students around the world,” Mr Finn said.

He said that Navitas would bring 12 registered and accredited independent higher education providers into COPHE with over 26,000 domestic and international students.

“We welcome the opportunity to join COPHE alongside other independent higher education providers which, like Navitas, are transforming the lives of their learners every day,” said Navitas Group CEO David Buckingham.
