Duncan Maskell reappointed as Melbourne uni vice-chancellor
Duncan Maskell has been given a second term as vice-chancellor of the University of Melbourne.
University of Melbourne vice-chancellor Duncan Maskell has been confirmed to lead the institution for a second term
Confirmation of his reappointment comes as the university emerges from the challenges presented by the pandemic and after the university closed off its Believe fundraising campaign, which raised more than $1bn over more than a decade.
Chancellor Allan Myers said Professor Maskell, who started as vice-chancellor in 2018, had proven to be a resilient and strong leader.
It is anticipated that, like other top-tier universities, Melbourne will rebound strongly from the financial challenge of Covid-19 and report a healthy surplus for 2021. However the announcement of its 2021 annual results has been postponed because the Victorian Auditor-General’s audit of the results has not been completed.
Professor Maskell said it was a “privilege to continue to lead this great institution” and he was fortunate to be supported by the university community of staff, students, alumni and partners.
