Edith Cowan University has named Clare Pollock as its new vice-chancellor to take over the leadership of the institution in September.

Professor Pollock, the senior deputy vice-chancellor and provost of Western Sydney University, said she was excited to return to Western Australia to the Perth-based university.

She previously held leadership roles at Curtin University in Perth, as well as executive positions at Flinders University in South Australia.

She said she planned to build on ECU’s “outstanding success”. The university consistently scores very highly in the federal government-backed annual student experience survey.

“The university’s commitment to excellence in teaching, student satisfaction and equitable access to education resonates deeply with my own personal and professional values,” Professor Pollock said.

“I aim for us to increase research impact, engaging with industry and government to provide solutions on issues that matter to our communities. I look forward to working closely with ECU’s talented staff and students to achieve these goals.”

Professor Pollock will take over the university from retiring vice-chancellor Steve Chapman as ECU’s new Perth CBD campus, which will replace the current Mount Lawley campus, is under construction.

The university’s chancellor, Denise Goldsworthy, said Professor Chapman had been an exceptional leader.
