It took a few years to catch on. But like many cultural customs that originated in America, the shopping phenomenon that is Black Friday has well and truly taken off Down Under. Taking place on November 27 — as per the American tradition, Black Friday always falls on the day after Thanksgiving — the event marks the official beginning of the Christmas shopping season. But this year, it’s about more than scoring a great deal for the sake of scoring a great deal. As shoppers, the sales are a great way to support retailers who’ve just weathered one of the toughest periods in history. Thankfully, it appears we’re in the mood to spend — analysts at Commonwealth Bank are predicting this will be the biggest Black Friday in Australian history.

But yes, the discounts that fashion retailers offer as part of the event — which now stretches across an entire weekend and culminates with Cyber Monday — are hard to beat. If you’re a savvy shopper, you’re doing yourself a disservice by not getting involved.

With markdowns being offered by Australian and international designers, and even a few luxury labels (if you know where to look), it’s the perfect time to hit the ‘purchase’ button on that piece you’ve been eyeing off forever. Or maybe you’re looking to treat someone special who’s got great personal style. Whatever you’re in the market for, our edit of the best fashion brands to shop this Black Friday is sure to have you covered.

Australian brands:

Viktoria & Woods

Loved by fashion influencers and tastemakers worldwide, Aussie brand Viktoria & Woods is offering up to 25 per cent off selected styles until November 30th.
