Who do they think they’re fooling?

Does anyone believe Iran’s supreme leader when he says his nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes? Or Vladimir Putin when he says he seeks peace with Ukraine? Who do they think they’re fooling?

Kerry MacDermott, Binalong, NSW

What a contrast in opinions. Peta Credlin says we have to assist the US in defending Taiwan, while Paul Keating says we shouldn’t be dragged into a war with and by the US over Taiwan.

Constantinos Michalakos, Magill, SA

It’s always interesting to read Paul Keating’s eccentric thoughts about international affairs. I would much rather read his thoughts about Jim Chalmers’s unrealised capital gains and superannuation plans.

Shane Hughes, Shenton Park, WA

I am haunted by the possibility that Paul Keating’s miserable article on possible conflict with China was ghost-written by Malcolm Turnbull.

Mark Scanlan, Hawthorne, Qld

Will someone please remind Paul Keating to take an afternoon nap every day. He’s obviously a very tired man. I guess when you have a fully funded (by the taxpayer) office complete with secretary, you have to do something to appear relevant but maybe some charity work rather than continually dabbling in politics would be better use of his time. He should do this in the mornings when he’s fresh.

John George, Terrigal, NSW

Quite a few years ago, I wrote to a number of conservative-type politicians and commentators encouraging them not to appear on the ABC’s Q+A program. I did this after Paul Keating suggested that anyone appearing on that program was the next best thing to insane.

Peter Surkitt, Sandringham, Vic

Paul Keating has forcefully set out his opinion on China, but he ignores that country’s belligerent arms build-up. One would imagine that the further evisceration of the super scheme, of which he is so proud, by a tax on unrealised capital gains would raise a comment, but no, stony silence.

Mark Allison, Ascot, WA

Sydney-based preacher Wissam Haddad, awaiting a verdict in a racial discrimination trial, now tells us that he believes in peace … but obviously not so far as Jews are concerned.

Coke Tomyn, Camberwell, Vic

Whatever your views on Jim Chalmers, it’s good to see he can hold a bunch of pages up without them cascading all over the place!
