When will nuclear bans be overturned?
A letter writer wonders how long it would take to overturn nuclear bans (Letters, 19/3). Presumably it would need the election of Coalition governments federally and in the states and territories. All have nuclear bans.

Are we reaching a state of emergency in Victoria with regards to the supply of electricity, with Jacinta Allan’s government proceeding with the shake-up of planning laws that until now have protected the community (“Wind, solar farms ‘will be put in wrong places’ ”, 20/3)? The first and most notable head of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Sir John Monash, would turn in his Brighton grave.

The term renewable energy refers to solar panels and windmills having to be renewed every 15 years.

Seems everybody is rushing to poison the air about the wide-ranging possibilities of nuclear energy, and this before it’s even in the starting stalls. Interesting to observe nuclear’s most ardent critics are the same people who constantly deride conservatives because they supposedly refuse to countenance anything new and groundbreaking.

Penny Wong says “there are people starving in Gaza”. There are people starving in Sudan, but clearly not enough Sudanese votes in western Sydney to warrant our aid.

Apparently Labor believes we need to bring in more immigrants to build houses for the immigrants we’re bringing in. That’s about as logical as Labor’s plan to save the environment by destroying it with solar and wind factories.

Janet Albrechtsen writes “filters that were first fashioned by academics … distort reality and occasionally provide a laugh” and she mentions common sense (“Power politics at heart of Sam Kerr race saga”, 20/3). Regrettably, the filters to which she refers provide more tears than laughs, and common sense is not common.

I sometimes get eggs from a farm where speckled hens, black hens and white hens live happily together. When I break the shells that are speckled, brown and white, they are all the same inside. On the issue of racism, perhaps humans could learn from the chooks.
