Trump sighting in Tassie?
Is Jacqui Lambie Tasmania’s equivalent to Donald Trump? Dismissal of anyone who disagrees or represents a differing opinion (sometimes referred to as democracy), and a self-belief that all wisdom resides within the aforementioned cult of personality.

It seems that it’s just a lottery about whether Gazans coming here are genuine or not. Do we accept this situation?

Bjorn Lomborg is right. Like most countries, Australia still gets most of its energy by setting millions of tiny fires everywhere. Cars, trucks, homes and factories all burn fossil fuels in countless engines, furnaces and boilers, creating pollution that heats the planet (“Renewables won’t magically make fossil fuels go away”, 24-25/8). This is why the world needs to electrify everything – cars, heating systems and factories – not magically, but over time. How we go about it will vary by country. Australia has made a good start.

Robert Kennedy suspending his campaign and throwing his support behind Donald Trump is nothing short of the incompetent backing the incoherent. God save American politics from itself.

If Kamala Harris becomes the next president, it will be a triumph for the media circus rather than the “content of her character”, as our esteemed cartoonist, Johannes Leak, brilliantly pointed out in Friday’s cartoon.

Henry Ergas goes from strength to strength. His form should be cast in deathless bronze. May his tribe increase (“Sympathy for Hamas a betrayal of our peace”, 23/8).
Jeanne O’Malley, Garran, ACT
Henry Ergas asks the right question: How could the government issues visas to people who sympathise, however rhetorically, with a movement based on a “psychotic hostility to Jews”? How indeed?

I applaud Bill Shorten for his work reining in the NDIS. While those most in need should continue to receive services, the reality is there are a huge number of services that should not be paid for and a large number of diagnoses that should not be made. It will be those who benefit from these particularly non-medical services that will bleat the loudest.
