Polls show the trend favouring Dutton
Newspoll can turn around only after Albo stops fighting the Tories.
Brian Gallery, Mosman, NSW
The trend is Peter Dutton’s friend now. Whether it continues will depend on his ability to become more likeable, avoid parochialism towards Queensland and overcome the election-winning advantage the misinformation and disinformation bill will give the Prime Minister if it is passed.
Peter R. Tredenick, Laidley, Qld
Political allegiances have flipped 180 degrees. The working class is voting against the ALP and Democrats and both political machines are lost in space.
Geoff Farnell, Buderim, Qld
The US flag is a prominent presence during the American
election. Pride in the flag, hand on heart. When did we lose our pride in our flag? Please, Mr Dutton, bring it back.

Donald Trump promised in 2017 to drain the swamp; perhaps now he can.
Roseanne Schneider, Toowoomba, Qld
Trump has not yet taken over, and look what happens: Qatar expels Hamas leadership; Putin states his interest in talking to Trump on Ukraine; and Iranian mullahs are worried that Trump will impose economic restrictions on them. I bet Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce and co couldn’t have achieved that.
Richard Henry, Daruka, NSW
I was always a bit sceptical about climate change until it snowed for the first time in Saudi Arabia a few days ago.
Paul Haege, Darling Point, NSW
I am amazed by the number of political journalists who are now telling us why and how Donald Trump won the election by such a large margin. Where were these journos before the election? The advantage of hindsight, perhaps?
Peter Shergold, Kewarra Beach, Qld
The COP29 caravan just broke an axle. Without the US on board, and China paying lip-service to net-zero targets while developing the equivalent of two coal-fired power stations a week, the climate change gabfest is an indulgence. Trump’s return and the Republican sweep of the US House of Representatives and Senate are a circuit-breaker.
Kim Keogh, Claremont, WA
Shock, horror! One of our regular latte drinkers had the courage to say she would have voted for Trump. America has woken up and Australia will likely follow.
