Oz Day, centre court politics and Google
Stop the nonsense and call Australia Day “Australians Day” (“PM sparks row over colonial suffering”, 22/1). Give us all an opportunity to celebrate the fact that we all live in the best country in the world. It is a fact that Aboriginals discovered our country, non-Aboriginals developed it, and migrants gave it a wonderful multicultural flavour.
John Langrehr, Leabrook, SA
Maybe the Prime Minister was mixing up the First Fleet with the Twelve Apostles.
Leo Oostveen, Murarrie, Qld
With Cricket Australia vs Australia Day following in the footsteps of Tennis Australia vs Margaret Court and Rugby Australia vs Israel Folau, maybe the three should join political forces and form a new party: the Spoilsports Australia Party.
Edward Preston, Como, WA
Has anyone cross-examined Rod Laver to hear what he thinks about LGBTI or climate change or diversity or transgender involvement in sport, or whatever else the chairman thinks is crucial “Margaret Court to receive Australia Day honours, Andrews slams decision”, 22/1)?

I’m astonished by the number of letter-writers raising doubt about Biden’s ability to be President. Surely he should be given time to prove he can help unite a very divided country.
Con Vaitsas, Ashbury, NSW
The juxtaposition of Johannes Leak’s cartoon (22/1) depicting Joe Biden choosing to recycle a “second hand” inauguration speech with Troy Bramston’s article hailing the “authenticity” of the new US president’s remarks was quite exquisite.
Alan Baker, Mansfield, Qld
Google has suddenly hoisted the Jolly Roger, so now we can see its true colours (“Unfortunate bully behaviour”, 22/1). We are all about to get scuttled unless we give into their demand to continue with their piracy of news content.
Cherry Wang, Bedford Park, SA
The argument about whether the indigenous Voice to parliament needs a constitutional change or a practical method of ensuring varied indigenous views are heard is nonsense. It needs both.
Norm Neill, Darlinghurst, NSW
The only change to the Constitution (“Co-design brings Voice an octave closer to success”, 22/1) should be to remove all references to race, aside from these words inspired by Martin Luther King Jr to be added as a preamble: “We will be judged by our character and not by the colour of our skin”.
