Love him or hate him, Trump is back in the game

The hope-you-die hate mail is justified by “progressives” because their virtues are superior and because Donald Trump is a loathsome fellow.

The US President has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for banging heads together and forging peace in the Middle East. Last month, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates formally recognised the Jewish state and Riyadh now permits Israeli aircraft to transit Saudi Arabian airspace.

Additional to his endeavours to de-nuclearise Iran and North Korea — and the withdrawal of US troops around the globe — Trump is the first president since World War II not to initiate an armed conflict.

He deported Russian diplomats and Chinese “academics” for espionage, causing Moscow and Beijing to curtail their regional hegemony, yet wins zero plaudits because harmony, diversity and inclusion do not extend to anyone who disagrees with self-absorbed progressives and Democrats.

In her column “It’s Trump’s foes who are dangerously unwell” (5/10), Jennifer Oriel denounced those who have either refused to accept the genuineness of Donald Trump’s COVID affliction, or who made fun of his contracting the disease. No mention is made of Trump’s attendance at various fundraising functions after Hope Hicks or possibly himself had received a positive diagnosis. The Rose Garden party to introduce the proposed new SCOTUS member is now known as a super-spreader event or cluster stuff-up.

The predominant reaction by the Left is to talk about Trump’s refusal to acknowledge the suffering of many. They also refer to his constant refusal to listen to science or wear a face mask while mocking Joe Biden for wearing one.

Call Donald Trump what you like — berserk, bumptious, bullying, bent, bad mannered, belittling or anything else bad — but because he stands up for the beleaguered battlers in the US, I am behind him.

The woke and leftist elite, often living in luxury with distributions from grandad’s trust funds or government jobs, simply offer platitudes about saving us with their latest end-of-the-world scenarios such as climate change.

President Donald Trump, in assuring us we have little to fear from COVID-19 (“Trump returns to the White House: ‘Maybe I’m immune’”, 6/10) forgot to mention a number of small provisos: provided you have emergency access to helicopters, a team of at least eight personal doctors in white coats, unlimited access to a cocktail of trial drugs, access to a fleet of chauffeur-driven vehicles for well-being excursions and finally a plethora of support services to help quarantine you at home.

Over the weekend the American media reluctantly screened massive pro-Trump gatherings in Pennsylvania, Maryland, California, New York and elsewhere, indicating that for every violent, pink-haired, tattooed, pierced progressive screaming their hatred for Donald Trump, looting local businesses and causing havoc in the public square, there are thousands of quiet, mature, responsible Americans simply waiting for the upcoming election to re-elect the President in a landslide.

With more than 200,000 Americans dead from COVID-19 in the last six months, I’m surprised to find I’m still shocked by Donald Trump’s callous indifference to the health and well-being of his staff, bodyguards, fellow politicians and political donors. COVID-19 infection is still running through the White House, with little effort at containment.

Now that Trump is on the mend, following state-of-the art treatment unavailable to most, he is claiming to have shown that COVID-19 is nothing to be afraid of. Will Americans really vote for this?

Sue Lester, Grange, SA

The attack on Donald Trump for doing a drive-past of supporters outside the Walter Reed hospital on Monday is fake news on steroids. If he had denied his supporters the chance to see him the media would have said he was hiding his real health status from the public. When will this silliness end?
