Last Post: Will net zero make a difference to climate change?

The one question I’ve never heard a journo ask Chris Bowen: “Even if Australia gets to net zero without reverting to the Stone Age, what difference will it make to climate change?” The answer: net zero.

Peter Dutton would be well- advised to champion President Trump’s wise policy of no taxation on tips received by catering and hospitality industry staff. It’s the right thing to do and a vote-winner.

The competing promises of the Greens and the Coalition (“Greens threaten childcare leverage” and “Dutton’s lunch policy a threat to budget: Treasury”, 4/2) illustrate what Australian elections really are: contests to see who can take the most out of the pot and who can put the least in. That is why federal expenditure has risen as a proportion of GDP.

A quick check confirmed the meaning: not accepted, or received, or pleasing to the intended recipient. What’s next then, PM?

Rosemary O’Brien, Ashfield, NSW

Since European settlement in the regions, records indicate heavy rainfall, flooding and cyclones impacting the northern portion of the continent at this time of the year are referred to as the summer monsoon season. As with all weather, there are variations of severity within the monsoon season where cyclical equatorial patterns emerge.
