Last Post: Why should parliament be cancelled?

Why should parliament be cancelled while Anthony Albanese is travelling overseas? Why should our nation be put on hold in his absence? Is his deputy, Defence Minister Richard Marles, too incompetent to act in his place? These are questions Australians need answered, along with all the parliamentary questions the government has not answered. Australians are entitled to expect accountability from our government. At present we see little.

Mary-Anne Huggins, Rose Park, SA

Criticising the Israelis for killing thousands of civilians is not anti-Semitic.

Richard Tainsh, Potts Point, NSW

We accepted the slang of a previous Anthony Albanese when he claimed any employer not recognising our America’s Cup win with a day off would be a “bum”. Can our present Prime Minister bring himself to describe one of his sworn ministers who doesn’t accept Hamas’s actions as genocide as a “berk”?

Michael Saul, Scarborough, Qld

I am confused as to why those who are calling for a ceasefire in Gaza are not also calling for Hamas to separate itself from Palestinian civilians. Their comments, including those from several of our federal ministers, would have more meaning if they were to do so.

Ross Clarke, Eumundi, Qld

The ACT government provides a microcosm of what life would be like under a Greens-Labor government. High debt, high taxation, freely available drugs and the takeover of private institutions. Our society is on a slippery slope.

John Murray, West End, Qld

I feel for Esther Kister (Letters, 31/10). As Winston Churchill said: “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” There’s a generation growing up that is ignorant of history and particularly the Holocaust.

Roseanne Schneider, Toowoomba, Qld

Our hearts go out to you, Esther Kister. Please know not all Australians are like those who are anti-Jewish.

Sheila Duke, Bulimba, Qld

The six former Australian prime ministers have shown what true bipartisan leadership is all about. The one noticeable absentee has tarnished his prime ministerial legacy as well as having a lot of explaining to do.

Riley Brown, Bondi Beach, NSW

After reading Stan Grant’s comments on the voice result, I wonder how the Yes vote even got 39.9 per cent.

Leo Oostveen, Murarrie, Qld
