Last Post: What Nick Kyrgios needs right now, Prince Harry as the full artillery, and the role of empathy in the voice vote
The piece about Nick Kyrgios (“Kick up the backside from a coach just what Kyrgios needs to mix it with the big boys”, 10/1) caught my attention. Will Swanton was spot-on with his thoughts, and I hope poor old Nick takes heed. Also, Swanton’s description of Roger Federer’s (seemingly) sudden departure from the game, and us not getting a chance to kiss him goodbye, almost had me teary – I couldn’t agree more.

Normally when Nick Kyrgios or Novak Djokovic plays tennis, because of my personal dislike for these players, which I know is shared widely, I hope they will lose. How am I going to manage this Friday when they are both playing in the same match for charity at the Rod Laver Arena? Is it possible both of them can be disqualified?
Anthony Wood, Epping, NSW
Nick versus Novak: I read you are giving to charity (“Bad boys or just a pair of jokers? Novak and Nick do it for charity”, 10/1). Good on you, boys. Nick, you are gonna win in the Open final. (That’s a joke, “Joko”.)

We are told (Last Post, 9/1) that if we “decent Australians” do not vote Yes in the voice referendum we are lacking a “conscience, compassion and empathy”. At present I will be voting No not because I lack those personal attributes but because I have another attribute, common sense, and will not vote for something without knowing all the details.

I have a great deal of empathy towards the dozens of outback Indigenous communities that suffer from alcoholism and violence daily. That is why, Lawton Ratnam, I shall vote No to a so-called voice that will have no benefit to the aforesaid communities while further dividing us as a nation.

We are not amused. In fact, there aren’t any funny bits in the Harry saga unless you take the whole charade to be a joke.

Why doesn’t the ill-advised Prince Harry thank God for his blessings, rather than moan about perceived ill-treatment?

Harry is not just a loose cannon but the full battery.

On the “energy transition” and Amy Hiller’s poetic quotation (Letters, 10/1): They told him that it couldn’t be done, He smiled and said he knew it, But he tried the thing that couldn’t be done, And found he couldn’t do it.
