Last Post: Warner’s response, buzzwords and power warnings
A simple congratulations to David Warner on proving every critic wrong on scoring a truly heroic 200 not out in his 100th Test match and, second, for demonstrating a comparable strength of character in walking away from the Cricket Australia “process” to again drag out all the dirty laundry of years gone by. His bat spoke louder than any words.

I enjoy watching Test cricket on the television, but I often wonder why the players have their names and numbers on their shirts? There is probably a reason for this, but it is quite beyond my ken.

Under the pump to retain his place, David Warner retired hurt at 200 not out. He is Test cricket’s version of “when the going gets tough, the tough gets going”.

It seems that a year can’t go by without a new crop of buzzwords. Top contenders for 2022 are quiet quitting, proximity bias, social capital, breathwork, NFTs and copy that. However, there are some old favourites that keep on going, such as: reaching out, unpack, zeitgeist, learn more, strategise and gaslighting, to name a few. No doubt there will be a new crop in 2023 to unpack. I guess it depends on the zeitgeist at the time.

Tomago Aluminium, you’re wasting your corporate breath warning of the frailty of the power system (“Nation’s biggest power consumer warns electricity will be under strain next winter”, 28/10). In the eyes of the Greens and teals, you now top the list of existential planet-destroying evils.

Is the weather situation in North America at the moment indicative of the beginning of global freezing?
