Last Post: Vaccination, Uluru Statement from the Heart

Reports state 30 per cent of the population will not vaccinate. Provide a $1000 tax rebate to all taxpayers and welfare recipients vaccinated before December 31 and watch the figure shift. For 20 million people, it will cost $20 billion, which is cheap as it simply recycles tax revenue.

I propose the salaries of public servants and politicians be reduced by 1 per cent for every day of lockdown. Such a policy might provide an incentive to improve health and quarantine facilities to the point that lockdowns become unnecessary or at least no longer the preferred response.

To put it bluntly, many are sick and tired of the opposition and do-gooders slamming the government over the rollout.

The Uluru Statement from the Heart has won a peace prize (“Uluru statement awarded peace prize”, 27/5). Professor Megan Davis says this will give a huge push to furthering the work of Indigenous activists. It may do that, but it won’t do much to help Indigenous people who live in appalling conditions in outback communities.

It’s good to see the Speaker of the House of Representatives moving hard against disorderly conduct on both sides. An improvement for questions without notice would be if both sides agreed on the absurdity of having every second question coming from the government side. Not only are the questions often badly worded but they are almost always simply farcical invitations for ministers to praise themselves and their government.

David Morrison, Springwood, NSW

ABC interviewers often merit criticism for their questioning of Coalition ministers. However, listening to Health Minister Greg Hunt refusing to answer perfectly reasonable questions, I unexpectedly sided with Sabra Lane. We would all like to know why no proper quarantine facilities have been built, and the answers to several other questions he was asked. It was a dismaying performance from someone who has a crucial role at this time.

Helen Trinca asks (“A Friends-y of nostalgia as gang gets back together”, 28/5) if there can be many people on the planet who have not had some exposure to the Friends phenomenon. Well there are two people in this household who answer yes to that question.

Riley Brown, Bondi Beach, NSW
