Last Post: Trump calls for action on hostages release
Gaza terrorists’ delays in returning all the hostages to Israel could be just another tactic to allow them time for their next deadly strategy.

So our PM has talked to Donald Trump about a possible exemption from steel tariffs. I wonder how far down the list was Anthony Albanese’s concern over Trump’s startling Gaza takeover plan. I suspect it was never on the list.

In his first three weeks Donald Trump has declared he wants to acquire Greenland, the Panama Canal, Canada and Gaza. Surely he has blown all credibility to oppose China’s designs to acquire Taiwan?

Donald Trump’s first bankruptcy, of several, arose from a failed attempt to turn Atlantic City into Las Vegas. Gaza suggests he learned his lesson: next time use someone else’s land.

Under the guise of academic freedom, activists on many campuses now feel free to engage openly in anti-Semitism without fear of reprisal. It appears some vice-chancellors and chancellors need leadership training to provide value for public money (“Uni heads fail leadership test”, 11/2).

Yes, Mark Dreyfus, you do need “those opposite” to tell you what anti-Semitism is because for 16 months you stood silent and absent from calling it out (“Dreyfus defends ALP anti-Semitism stand”, 11/2). You left it to “those opposite” to show courage and conviction in their condemnation of this evil.

It seems ridiculous to help with menopause and other medical problems when our sisters in the regional areas can’t find a hospital with maternity facilities to give birth (“Labor to invest $573m in women’s health”, 8/2). They have to drive for no less than 800km to find such a facility. I am sure menopause is far from their minds.

There’ll be a lot of confusion at the Bathurst 1000 race as the word power increasingly means electricity.

The cost of living is biting hard. Interest rates and inflation are worrisome. The elephant in the room, though, has to be the possibility of a Labor minority government with the radical Greens calling the shots. If people think it’s tough going now, prepare for much worse.
