Last Post: Trump, Biden and the ‘stolen election’ theory

I never cease to be amazed at the hypocrisy of those who identify as progressive. As I write this the US election result is in the balance and many are denouncing President Trump’s insistence that only valid votes should be counted, insisting that “all” votes should be counted. These are the same people who claimed the result of the 2016 election was “illegitimate” and denied that Trump was, in fact, “their” President.

Surely there must be some clever, responsible Republicans who can help Donald Trump admit defeat while keeping some sense of his ego intact and behaving like a statesman? Perhaps a story about him having revolutionised the Republican Party during his one term and his role as mentor for future politicians? In time he’ll come to enjoy the return to his previous opulent existence, harbouring a sense of victimhood along the way.

After listening to the latest inexplicable election analyses of President Trump I’m thinking that 60 million of his supporters can, indeed, be wrong.

In Wisconsin, won by Joe Biden, the 60-year average voter turnout is 67 per cent. This year it was reportedly 89 per cent — a 5.5 standard deviation from the historical average. We might expect this in Turkey or Zimbabwe but not in America and it is unsurprising that Donald Trump’s camp is unsettled.

Caroline Overington’s accurate, sensitive article (6/11) about the differences between Donald Trump and the late senator John McCain should be essential reading for anyone who is remotely interested in decency in politics and politicians.

Could there be any Trump-hating Republicans Our ABC hasn’t interviewed during this election?

Kevin Brown, Ruse, NSW

What a truly wonderful example to youth and to his own young son would it have been if President Trump had been as graceful as Joe Biden has been patient in awaiting the result of the election. That would have shown true leadership.

Claire Jolliffe, Buderim, Qld

Watching the trainwreck that is the US election process certainly strengthens the conspiracy theory that there is no way they managed to put a man on the moon 50 years ago.
