Last Post: ‘Tories’ are rapidly diminishing in battlefield
Anthony Albanese has often stated that “fighting Tories” is his raison d’etre. He has been too successful. What’s he going to do now that there are so few of them left?

Presumably, Jim Chalmers has invited real estate representatives to the productivity roundtable as it is the only growth industry in this country.

I remain confused as to the benefit the Hare-Clark voting system in Tasmania delivers to the voters. Likely another hung parliament. Tasmania seems to be becoming the Italy of Australian politics. The system makes as much sense to me as Duckworth-Lewis does in cricket.

I am surprised there has not been an outcry from those who will not benefit from the proposal to prioritise shorter working weeks over tax cuts (“Shorter hours, not tax cuts”, 21/7). There is a struggling section of our community desperately in need of tax relief. And some manufacturers must see the disadvantages of less activity at assembly lines.

Congratulations to the former leaders of the Nationals. While the Liberals are still wittering about themselves, leadership and rationality of thought are shown by the public rejection of net zero by Barnaby Joyce and Michael McCormack.
Robin Southey, Port Fairy, Vic

With Australia joining other nations in condemning Israel for the war in Gaza, we can now look forward to Hamas’s victory parades in capital cities around the world.

The Prime Minister seems to have been inspired by China’s rapid transport. Let’s hope the penny has dropped at last that the 1980s idea of a very fast train should be a priority for us. Just imagine how many houses could be built along the way instead of high-rise apartments annihilating our suburbs.
