Last Post: The parallel worlds of Dan, Peta, Daryl and Gladys
I am with Gladys. Anyone who invites the best Premier in the land out for dinner in Wagga Wagga with a choice between a $20 chicken schnitzel and chips or a $14 beef nachos deserves the cold shoulder (“Tight-lipped over taxpayer-funded trips”, 16/10).

My observation of people’s reactions to the fuss in NSW is that the only people who are not sympathetic toward Gladys Berejlikan are members of the NSW left and members of the media who are sitting in what they see as an “I’m alright” position. Good on’ya, Gladys.

If nothing else, COVID and the Berejiklian/Maguire revelations have given us a clearer idea of the best and worst our system of government can produce. It will be a travesty and a tragedy if Gladys Berejiklian’s services are lost to the people of NSW. We’ll just have to bear up bravely at the loss of Daryl Maguire.

Star of the Week goes to ... Peta Credlin. For being a prime force in the pursuit of justice, honesty, openness, trust and probity across public servants, elected and appointed. And for being a superb role model for all journalists on how to do the job properly.

Henry Ergas does his usual insightful job of nailing the situation (“A tale of two crises: one sad and one sickening”, 16/10). The basic difference seems to be it is easier to investigate and find corruption in NSW than find incompetence and its manager in Victoria.

Daniel Andrews is like a pilot frozen at the controls of an out-of-control plane and no matter how hard the passengers bang on the cockpit door he is oblivious to the crash he is causing.

If observing something so excruciatingly slow and boring is like watching paint dry, then listening to Daniel Andrews’ daily updates is like hearing paint dry.

Am I missing out on something here: has nobody asked Wilson Security to produce the signed document that authorised it to do the hotel quarantine? It beggars belief a contract worth $30m was conducted without proper paperwork.

World evidence of the pandemic is that a second wave cannot be ducked and it’s another dumper.
