Last Post: The Jerry Springer show comes to the ABC

Wonder who would have won the uni drinking competition? The lefties’ favourite (can do no wrong) “Hawkey” or Christian Porter? Get a life, ABC (“Row over ABC’s sex expose on ministers”, 10/11).

Gary Legg, Goombungee, Qld

When deciding to expose the behaviour of politicians and their camp followers when ensconced in Canberra, presumably our ABC was satisfied that its own organisation has clean hands?

Chris Humphry, Swanbourne, WA

ABC’s Four Corners finally has its own version of The Jerry Springer Show. It’s all there: sordid, appealing to base curiosity, mature content, bias, immorality. I hope the ABC retained the rights to produce its new episode.

Greg Williams, Bellbowrie, Qld

If Monday night’s much-heralded Four Corners program was the best our ABC can manage, I would like an immediate refund please.

Merryl Symons, Harmilton, Qld

John Stone’s assertion (Letters, 10/11) that Joe Biden was corruptly elected cannot go unchallenged, nor can his conspiracy theory about the “hard-left” V-P replacing him. His belief that Kamala Harris would replace Biden under Article 23 of the US Constitution neatly sums up the muddled thinking of a conspiracy theorist. There is no Article 23 of the US Constitution and the 23rd Amendment grants voting rights in presidential elections to residents of Washington DC.

Paul Connelly, Gawler South, SA

(Mr Stone’s reference to Article 23 should have been to the 25th Amendment.)

By saying Gough Whitlam was dismissed by ambush (“The Dismissal and me: a political obsession”, 10/11) Troy Bramston suggests Whitlam, a QC, had no idea of the constitutional consequences of supply being withheld. But in opposition, he had spelled these out when supporting Labor’s attempt to withhold supply to force an election. Indeed, he instructed his shadow attorney Lionel Murphy to table a list of 179 other occasions when Labor had attempted to obtain this very result. If he were ambushed, it was only by his only mistaken belief that John Kerr was a weak man and lacked courage and strength.

David Flint, Bondi Beach, NSW

On the 45th anniversary of the removal of Gough Whitlam, let’s not forget at the ensuing election, fewer than five weeks later, the voters gave Malcolm Fraser the biggest parliamentary majority in Australia’s history. In a democracy, the people do not get it wrong, however much the Left bleats about being cheated. The people voted, Whitlam was thrashed, end of story.

Ian Morison, Forrest, ACT
